At Stonesfield Pre School the children are at the heart of our curriculum, where each child is valued for their uniqueness and encouraged to become keen learners and valued individuals. Our staff will work to meet the needs of each child and encourage them to express their own individual personalities, feel positive about themselves and gain in confidence and social skills which will provide them a good grounding as they move on through life. Here every child will have the opportunity to express their own feelings and opinions will be heard and discussed. We teach children how best to regulate their own behaviour and that of others.
During each session we will provide an environment both inside and out that promotes ‘in the moment’ planning, so that each child can select their own resources and play with what sparks their interest. This provides our highly qualified and experienced staff opportunities to promote ‘teachable moments’ focusing on the child’s next steps and 7 areas of learning because we know children learn best when they are engaged and interested. We also present ‘invitations to learn (triggers)’ which are resources we purposely provide to promote curiosity, investigation and conversation; these are usually based around seasonal and current interests and events.
All our learning is based around the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and follows the non-statutory Birth to 5 Matters which is broken down into the 7 areas of learning. The 2-3year old children are encouraged to develop solid foundations in the 3 prime areas of learning which will give them good stability to develop strongly in all areas during their time within our setting.
We work in partnership with families to understand them and ensure the best for their children. We support children to respect their surrounding environment and to have close relationships to life outside Pre School. As a setting we like to work in harmony with our village life and have good connections with the primary school and other local clubs and groups. Children will learn about the wider world, different cultures and beliefs, and the uniqueness of every individual. We discuss global issues in a child friendly way such as environmental concerns, for example we teach children about water conservation through our water play activities and getting them involved in energy saving, with turning off lights etc and discussing why we do this.
